Something You Don't See Everyday

An old elephant (45-50yrs old) collapsed near our camp on Friday.  Our Guide Tom told us that he likely was not going to survive - old age.  It died Saturday morning - very sad to see.  But it was a blessing to the many villagers nearby who were able to come and collect the meat. Driving out of Tembe we saw many people walking to where the elephant had died carrying plastic bags and machetes to cut and carry their share of the meat.

I asked about its tusks and was told that they likely would be stored in the game park's vault.
